Preparedness POA&M: Week Begins - 22SEP24 -> The 5-Gun Survival Battery

The Preparedness POA&M (plan of action & milestones) is a weekly column focusing on skills, self-sufficiency and taskers needed to shore up those areas that will allow us to be part of the solution. As hard times continue to unfold and resources become scarce, the prepared mind strives to take steps to mitigate those eventualities. In order to shepherd our cause, we must have a plan of action and continuously evaluate our progress via milestones as we consider the path onward.

Evening, TBR readers,


We have finally received some relief in the form of cooler temperatures and rain. As I sit down to publish this week's POA&M it's still raining off and on. We have really needed the rain as this part of the O.N.T has officially been under drought conditions for some time...thank you Lord!


I completed some landscaping around the raised beds and laid down some additional organic mulch. It's almost complete as far as the aesthetics are concerned. I was able to get Rose Ridge all mowed up last week and will probably only have to mow one more time this year.


We also purchased some antique white paint for an indoor winter project this year.


This weeks focus is on the 5-gun survival battery.


I have seen many survival lists regarding which type of firearms you should have for a survival battery. They vary a little but, for the most part the list is static. In my view, the basic, essential list of firearms every prepper-minded individual needs is as follows:


  1. Henry U.S. Survival .22 long rifle (LR): A .22 long rifle allows you to harvest small game and pests (squirrels, rabbits, snakes, rodents, etc.).

  2. Glock 19: Some folks like the Glock 45 but I find the Glock 19 to be a perfect his/her solution when it comes to a concealed-carry. If you have larger hands the Glock 45 is your better option.

  3. Remington 870 Shotgun: This firearm is legendary. This is a fantastic home-defense solution.

  4. Some sort of AR-15: Even the least expensive AR-15's on the market will reliably fire thousands of rounds. For the normal everyday Joe, that's all you need.

  5. The Bible: The ultimate firearm! No battery is complete without a battle saber. In this case, it's the "sword of the Spirit" that will round out your inventory perfectly. After all, you will run out of ammo...eventually.


Taskers for the coming week...


(1) Complete my four-day-per-week workout sessions.

(2) Disassemble and conduct maintenance on one of my AR-15's.

(3) Continue cutting, splitting and stacking this winters wood stores.

(4) Continue research and writing on my forthcoming novel, "A Mammoth Resistance."

(5) Read through/listen too the book of Mark.


***Caution***

Earlier this evening, Mamma Fitz and I drove to the closest small town to get some items for this coming week. As we were walking down the isle two dark-colored women pushing a grocery cart were walking by when I heard one of them say,


"Ask him."


I stopped, turned around and said,


"You guys ok."


They spoke broken English and said they didn't have any money to pay for their groceries. I looked at their cart. It wasn't very full and had basic items like bread, meat, some grapes and a few more items. I told them that I would pay for the essentials and asked them to choose what those were.


I was expecting them to begin arguing with me sort of like when someone asking for money does when you tell them you will get them some food and what they really want is money so they can buy alcohol or drugs. They didn't do that. The ladies started picking the items that were of most importance. Again, they didn't have much in their cart. They picked the meat items, bread, and one or two other things. I thought that was telling so I told them,


"You know what, let's just get all of it."


Now sure, they did come into the store knowing that they didn't have any money so that means they had a plan. You know, that's ok. I made a judgement call. About that time, I noticed one of the ladies was about 2-3 months pregnant. I was thankful I made that call.


I let them scan their items. They actually set the grapes aside because they thought they were too expensive. I said,


"No, go ahead and get the grapes."


They were very appreciative. The total bill was only $98 and some change. I asked them where they were from and they said,


"Romania."


I told them to be safe and that Jesus see's their circumstance (if legit?) and understands their situation. They continued on their way.


Folks, I know that in most cases these types of encounters are dubious at best. I'm not a fool, however, it's important to consider each case individually. Ask a few questions, see if they are argumentative. In the end, if I was scammed today, the Lord will make this right in His time. I'm good with that. Either way, I am grateful that we had the ability and resources to offer assistance...WE ALL need that from time-to-time.


There was a time in my life where I was homeless and had to sell my plasma in order to buy some McChicken's so I wasn't hungry that evening. That was in another lifetime...many, many moons ago.


Today, I have a fully stocked retreat, a wonderful wife, and The Tribe (my platoon of little humans). We will be able to provide charity to those Yahweh brings along our path. The Lord is indeed great and mighty!


I am thankful that at least for the next few days and nights, those ladies and that precious little baby will enjoy some good supper. The world is a little better off this PM.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the might of His strength. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. In addition to all, having taken up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one, also receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times with all prayer and petition in the Spirit, and to this end, being on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, as well as on my behalf, that words may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel—for which I am an ambassador in chains—so that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. But that you also may know about all my affairs, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make everything known to you. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know our circumstances, and that he may encourage your hearts. In Congress, July 4, 1776.

The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America, When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of

Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

 

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.        He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

       He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.

       He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.

       He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.

       He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

       He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.

       He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

       He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

       He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.

       He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.

       He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

       For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:

       He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

       He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

 

In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.

 

Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our Brittish brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. We have appealed to their native justice and magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the ties of our common kindred to disavow these usurpations, which, would inevitably interrupt our connections and correspondence. They too have been deaf to the voice of justice and of consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the rest of mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

 

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.
