Preparedness POA&M: Week Begins - 22SEP24 -> The 5-Gun Survival Battery
The Preparedness POA&M (plan of action & milestones) is a weekly column focusing on skills, self-sufficiency and taskers needed to shore up those areas that will allow us to be part of the solution. As hard times continue to unfold and resources become scarce, the prepared mind strives to take steps to mitigate those eventualities. In order to shepherd our cause, we must have a plan of action and continuously evaluate our progress via milestones as we consider the path onward.

Lee's POA&M:
Evening, TBR readers,
We have finally received some relief in the form of cooler temperatures and rain. As I sit down to publish this week's POA&M it's still raining off and on. We have really needed the rain as this part of the O.N.T has officially been under drought conditions for some time...thank you Lord!
I completed some landscaping around the raised beds and laid down some additional organic mulch. It's almost complete as far as the aesthetics are concerned. I was able to get Rose Ridge all mowed up last week and will probably only have to mow one more time this year.
We also purchased some antique white paint for an indoor winter project this year.
This weeks focus is on the 5-gun survival battery.
I have seen many survival lists regarding which type of firearms you should have for a survival battery. They vary a little but, for the most part the list is static. In my view, the basic, essential list of firearms every prepper-minded individual needs is as follows:
Henry U.S. Survival .22 long rifle (LR): A .22 long rifle allows you to harvest small game and pests (squirrels, rabbits, snakes, rodents, etc.).
Glock 19: Some folks like the Glock 45 but I find the Glock 19 to be a perfect his/her solution when it comes to a concealed-carry. If you have larger hands the Glock 45 is your better option.
Remington 870 Shotgun: This firearm is legendary. This is a fantastic home-defense solution.
Some sort of AR-15: Even the least expensive AR-15's on the market will reliably fire thousands of rounds. For the normal everyday Joe, that's all you need.
The Bible: The ultimate firearm! No battery is complete without a battle saber. In this case, it's the "sword of the Spirit" that will round out your inventory perfectly. After all, you will run out of ammo...eventually.
Taskers for the coming week...
(1) Complete my four-day-per-week workout sessions.
(2) Disassemble and conduct maintenance on one of my AR-15's.
(3) Continue cutting, splitting and stacking this winters wood stores.
(4) Continue research and writing on my forthcoming novel, "A Mammoth Resistance."
(5) Read through/listen too the book of Mark.
***Caution***
Earlier this evening, Mamma Fitz and I drove to the closest small town to get some items for this coming week. As we were walking down the isle two dark-colored women pushing a grocery cart were walking by when I heard one of them say,
"Ask him."
I stopped, turned around and said,
"You guys ok."
They spoke broken English and said they didn't have any money to pay for their groceries. I looked at their cart. It wasn't very full and had basic items like bread, meat, some grapes and a few more items. I told them that I would pay for the essentials and asked them to choose what those were.
I was expecting them to begin arguing with me sort of like when someone asking for money does when you tell them you will get them some food and what they really want is money so they can buy alcohol or drugs. They didn't do that. The ladies started picking the items that were of most importance. Again, they didn't have much in their cart. They picked the meat items, bread, and one or two other things. I thought that was telling so I told them,
"You know what, let's just get all of it."
Now sure, they did come into the store knowing that they didn't have any money so that means they had a plan. You know, that's ok. I made a judgement call. About that time, I noticed one of the ladies was about 2-3 months pregnant. I was thankful I made that call.
I let them scan their items. They actually set the grapes aside because they thought they were too expensive. I said,
"No, go ahead and get the grapes."
They were very appreciative. The total bill was only $98 and some change. I asked them where they were from and they said,
"Romania."
I told them to be safe and that Jesus see's their circumstance (if legit?) and understands their situation. They continued on their way.
Folks, I know that in most cases these types of encounters are dubious at best. I'm not a fool, however, it's important to consider each case individually. Ask a few questions, see if they are argumentative. In the end, if I was scammed today, the Lord will make this right in His time. I'm good with that. Either way, I am grateful that we had the ability and resources to offer assistance...WE ALL need that from time-to-time.
There was a time in my life where I was homeless and had to sell my plasma in order to buy some McChicken's so I wasn't hungry that evening. That was in another lifetime...many, many moons ago.
Today, I have a fully stocked retreat, a wonderful wife, and The Tribe (my platoon of little humans). We will be able to provide charity to those Yahweh brings along our path. The Lord is indeed great and mighty!
I am thankful that at least for the next few days and nights, those ladies and that precious little baby will enjoy some good supper. The world is a little better off this PM.

The Armor of God
~
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the might of His strength. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. In addition to all, having taken up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one, also receive the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times with all prayer and petition in the Spirit, and to this end, being on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, as well as on my behalf, that words may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel—for which I am an ambassador in chains—so that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. But that you also may know about all my affairs, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will make everything known to you. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, so that you may know our circumstances, and that he may encourage your hearts. Peace be to the brothers, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus Christ with incorruptible love.
